I contacted Llewie hoping he could replace an internal door in our old stone cottage. The frame was very uneven and not without its challenges, but he made a perfectly fitting, high-quality door, which blended with the original pine doors in the rest of the house. So thrilled with the result. Highly recommend this very talented young man.
After a long search we found Crystal Woods website and commissioned Llewie to create a bespoke 15 bottle wine rack from a chestnut log that he selected. It was a pleasure to do business with Llewie. His communications were excellent throughout the project, including photos and videos showing how the work was progressing. We were delighted with the end result which fully demonstrated the high level of his craftsmanship.
Llewie and his assistant recently completed the installation of ten custom-made windows for our five-hundred year old cottage. In the course of removing old and rotting lintels he was able to expose a long standing issue of damp that was held deep within the stone wall.
This led to some much needed restoration work. Throughout the job Llewie brought his impeccable building skills to every aspect of the work; from finding innovative solutions to newly discovered problems to constantly maintaining a clean and well organised job site. He is extremely conscientious, very considerate and has a sense of humour. It was a tremendous pleasure to have such a creative craftsman in our home.
I first contacted Llewie to replace a rotting post on my verandah. He replied later that same day. I thought that it would be a difficult job due to the size of the post, the position set in quarry tiles and the fact that the post was supporting a pitched roof. However Llewie replaced the post with the minimum of fuss, zero damage to the surrounding area and with superb skill. He sourced a beautiful piece of oak for me and fashioned it so it matched exactly the other three posts. I could tell that he has a real passion for his craft. I approached Llewie of Crystal Wood Carpentry with a view to totally re-landscaping our existing garden. He was very helpful right from the initial meeting with suggestions of how we could proceed and came up with a rough design which, with input from myself, he amended slightly as the project went on.
Llewie was very conscientious in producing a good balance of ideas that worked both practically and aesthetically. For example we initially wanted a straight line of sleepers between the lower patio and the lawn area, but Llewie suggested a slightly different layout and, although I was initially sceptical, after seeing a rough layout I agreed to go with it. Now that it is finished, I have to agree it does look great.
The project itself was fairly challenging with limited access and space to work in but Llewie planned the materials and plant hire in advance so that we made best use of the space available.
During the project an issue with drainage arose (this had not been done properly when the house was built) and Llewie was very thorough in ensuring that a solution was found to remedy this to prevent any further issues going forward.
Llewie’s work was of an exceptionally high standard and he was very thorough throughout. He was more than happy to answer my questions.
The finished garden looks superb and the reclaimed railway sleepers that were used for steps and a bench that have been stripped back and oiled look fantastic.

I have known Llewie for many yearsand seen a number of projects he has undertaken.
His work is always carried out to a very high standard. He built a tree house in my orchard in a large eucalyptus tree which took a great deal of skill to design and construct around the existing branches. It was difficult working in such confined conditions. The result was a strong, safe, roomy tree house blending in with the surrounding environment. Crystal Woods designed and built a replacement platform and steps from the street level down into the courtyard of our Topsham property. This was a tricky job- and Llewie worked extremely hard to build the best he could within a difficult space. He particularly looked at damp and drainage issues and came up with some great solutions. He worked long hours and maintained a reasonably good budget and we are delighted with the results.
