Oak Framed Kit Installer

An oak frame kit can look simple on paper. Posts. Beams. A few satisfying joints.

Then the timbers arrive. The weight becomes real. The joints need to meet cleanly. The frame needs to go up square, true, and safely braced, so it can settle into itself the way oak is meant to.

That is where an experienced oak framed kit installer makes the difference.

At Crystal Woods, we install oak framed kits across Devon and the South West with traditional joinery in mind. The aim is not just to get the frame standing. It’s to raise it properly so it stays honest for years and looks right from every angle.

Why oak kit installation is different

Oak is a material that moves as it seasons. Green oak in particular will shrink across the grain and develop natural shakes as it dries. That movement is part of its character, and part of its strength, but only if the frame is assembled correctly from the start.

A good oak framed kit installation is about:

  • Joints pulling together the way they should

  • Bracing and lifting done safely, with control

  • Keeping the frame square, level and plumb

  • Allowing for seasoning and movement, rather than fighting it

  • Details that feel considered, not rushed

Where many decking materials weaken, splinter or fade, oak grows more beautiful with age, creating a surface that feels truly part of your landscape.

How we approach installation

1) A quick look at the kit and the site
We’ll ask about access, ground conditions, and what stage you’re at. If you’ve got drawings or a spec, we’ll review them and flag anything that might cause trouble on the day.

2) Making sure the base is ready
Oak frames are only as good as what they’re fixed to. We can advise on pads, footings, fixings, and the small practical details that stop big headaches later.

3) Raising the frame
We assemble the joints, raise the frame, brace it, and check alignment as we go. Oak demands patience here. It rewards it too.

4) Leaving you set up for the next stage
Whether you’re roofing, glazing, or cladding next, we’ll leave the structure properly set and ready for the next trade.
“The work was completed in an amiable and professional manner”
Nigel Wingfield

Installing kits we did not supply

If you’ve purchased a kit elsewhere, we can still install it. As long as the kit is well designed and the site is prepared properly, the process can run smoothly.
